The Woocommerce shopping cart is a great WordPress plugin, make no mistake. I have used it many times to build shops for clients. I initially made a few mistakes. Yes, I hear you, I should have read the instructions first!
Keep the following in mind:
- Most clients need more fields on the checkout than what is provided by the Woocommerce plugin. This means that you need to buy the paid extension that allows you to add custom fields – it works well – or you need to program it.
- Most payment gateways need a paid Woocommerce extension, unless you are using Payfast (South African payment gateway).
- Some themes are just not compatible with Woocommerce. So, use a Wootheme to save yourself some trouble.
- Importing clients/products: you need a paid extension.
